When Henry died his last address was shared with his son-in-law John Wales. Peter Wales gives us the following extra information:-

"37 Canterbury Place (at the end of the Lambeth Walk). This was the Wales family home up to the 2nd world war, birthplace of all Alice and John's children including my father. It was hit by a bomb, aimed at Waterloo Station, and completely destroyed. If you have ever seen the film passport to Pimlico, it was actually filmed on the bomb site where Canterbury Place once stood."

We know that Henry spent a number of years in Brighton from around 1858 to 1872.
This is borne out by entries in the various trrade directories for Brighton.
However, it would appear that he was originally there in a business and house belonging to David Jacobs, who is possibly his elder brother.

Birth:
The entry in Myer Solomon's Circumcision Register fits well.
Given that it was custom to circumcise a male child about 8 days after birth, this would give us a birth date of 17th September 1831

The cause of death is strange in death certificate which was signed by the coroner who I would imagine would have carried out an autopsy, in view of the unusual circumstances of his death.

Even in those days you would not be expected to die from fractured ribs.

I have had a number of these, one of them a double fracture, mainly through football injuries and the hospital do not even take X rays of the injuries.

Also apart form the initial injury which is a bit painful. there is only discomfort for the next 6 weeks until they are healed.

If he died from complications as a result of the injury, why does the certificate not indicate it?

I will try to check Coroner's report/details of inquest next time I am in London but I am not very optimistic that I will find anything.

The address death occurred is 24 Tenison Street, in the area on the south bank of the Thames between Waterloo and Hungerford Bridges.

The cemetery records indicated that Moses was living in Soho, prior to his death, so probably it was a friend or relative's house and will try to check 1851 and 1861 census to find out more.

Oct 2010 - Checked 1851 census for the address where Moses died but he is not listed there - unsurprising as we have him with his wife already.

. In the 1851 Census Sarah says she was born in the parish of St Martins in the Fields.

2. Sarah's marriage record gives her patronymic as "Sara bat Simha Segal" (Harold Lewin's transcript).

3. Simha equates to Simon.

4. Searching the Rate Books in the Westminster Archives for the period from
1793 to 1813 (I have still to check later records) shows only one Simon Levy in St Martin's parish and he is living in Russell Court, off Drury Lane.

5. Simon's wife, Hannah, appears in an Old Bailey trial as a witness in 1801. The entry in the trial record reads: "HANNAH LEVY sworn. - I am the wife of Simon Levy , who keeps a house and shop in Russel court..." (sic)

6. It seems Simon LEVY was a reasonably prosperous trader and was insured with the Sun Insurance Co - details awaited.

7. The inscription on Simon LEVY's grave is:

"In memory of/Mr Simon Levy/Late of Charles St Soho Square/Obit Jany 30th AM 5587/In the sixty seventh year/Of his life" (died 30 Jan 1827)

8. In 1825 Moses JACOBS had a shop in Charles Street (now called Soho Street).
