  When his grandfather, Mordecai Capua, died in 1840 Lewis inherited quite a lot of money. He later inherited from his grandfather's second wife, Hannah Fano. In the 1851 census he is in debtor's prison. and it believed that his wife has by this fled to Australia with much of his money. [14, 15]
