Notes - Note from Nellie Johnston:-
Henry Gomm was convicted at the Gloucestershire Assizes so I have attached various newspaper clippings. He was originally sentenced to death but it was commuted to 14yrs in Van Dieman's Land. He arrived on the ship Asia (4) & I have transcribed what I can of Henry's sentence. Apparently there were about 20 poachers that night & only about 14 got caught. Some got off in the trial & the others were transported. On Henry's sentence sheet it mentions he wounded William Nicholls but in the paper it states it was William Evans they wounded.
