- Note from Eileen Bird:
Amelia Mrs Simpson 1891 her son to Benjamin Noah Dacosta was born in New Zealand as Samuel 1868 and the three of them returned in 1871 I have their return passage but it is very large and for me to send i would have to get it reduced they returned on the SS Superb leaving melboure april 20 1871
At the time of the 1891 census her 8 year old son Wiliiam (my grandfather) Simpson was a boarder at a school in Southport
Benjamin born 1868 as Samuel in new Zealand unfortunately changed his name several times other names he used were Emanuel Dacosta Samuel Dacosta and the last one a complete change Godfrey A Yates this is the name my mother knew him by and He signed my grandmother's marriage cert using that name.
Very Fortunately my mother knew how and when he died and so I asked the coroners office if I could look at inquest for the year and they allowed me to do this I came accross a Samuel DaCosta about right time and they let me to look at the inquest report and there it was inside Samuel Noah DaCoasta known locally as Godfrey Yates
