Notes |
- After visiting the website http://www.geocities.com/shmuelbennachum/index.htm
I contacted Saul Marks (saulmarks@hotmail.com) and asked if he had any information on Aaron and Hannah from the burial records. He replied:-
Dear Dave,
Thanks for your e-mail. I'm pleased to say there are 7 interments under the surname of Abraham in my register (last updated 7 May), including your 3 ancestors.
Aaron Abraham is buried in plot number 185A in Row 6, having died on 11 Jan
1865 & been buried two days later. His tombstone gives his age as either 60 or 70 (there's a blade of grass in the way!), but his age in other sources is given as 61. His parents were Levi & Miriam. His stone bears a long & highly legible English inscription in the Sam Lipson photo collection.
Hannah Abraham is buried next to Aaron, in plot 184A, having died on 6 Oct
1862 & been buried the following day, aged 74 years, 6 months. Her parents were Michael & Sarah Nathan. Her stone bears a similar inscription to Aaron's.
Nancy Abraham is buried in plot number 764A in Row 27, having died on 1 Jun
1901 & been buried two days later. Her stone is also in the Sam Lipson photo collection, though the inscription is much shorter and slightly less clear.
Thank you very much for the biiographical information on Aaron & his family.
The Eliza Jackson Home was a home for elderly or infirm Jewish spinsters & widows, & you can read a little of its history in my biography of James Braham on the Deane Road website.
You might be interested to know that a working party will be going into the cemetery on 8 June to try & clear the fly-tipped refuse. If you live in the area, perhaps you'd be interested in joining us? I have the keys to the cemetery & would be happy to take you to your ancestors' graves.
Hope this helps,
Saul.

- I visited the Deane Road cemetery on 16th July 2006 to help with the clear-up and to visit the graves.
