A piece of Jacobs pottery

Last modified date

In August 2020 I was contacted by a chap called Greg.

He had been on Margate beach (in Kent, UK) and had come across a shard of pottery. On the base the manufacturer’s signature was clearly visible.

The signature readsĀ  D. JACOBS, GLASS WAREHOUSE, 33 HAYMARKET

Greg contacted me after an Internet search found the JacobsTree page, and asked if I would like it?

Greg sent me the 3 photos shown below, then parcelled up the item and posted it to me.

I’m imagining that it was a dinner plate based on the size of the foot of the base which is about 11cm (4.5″).

The address of 33 Haymarket was the address for David Jacobs, son of Moses and Sarah Levy, from about 1848 until his death in 1869.

Very many thanks to Greg.
